| MISSION To provide Equine Professionals and Horsemen with information and products designed to promote soundness through Natural Guidelines for Hoof Balance. COMPANY EDSS, Inc. is a family business that was started in 1995 in Columbia Falls, Montana. After studies on wild horses (feral horses) hoof patterns in 1986 and 1987, Gene Ovnicek developed the World Race Plate, which is now manufactured and distributed by Thoro'Bred Racing Plate Company. After continued years of research and development based on the wild horse data, Gene developed a system for treating lower limb equine pathologies. The resulting Equine Digit Support System and comprehensive instruction material has proven to be one of the most effective tools for treating lameness diseases and often times returning the horse to a pre-disease condition. In an effort to make sure that proper instruction and support is offered for the EDSS, the Ovnicek family started Equine Digit Support System, Inc. Since that time, EDSS, Inc. has continued to offer inovation and information to help restore and maintain soundness in the domestic equine. Shortly after development of the EDSS and the biomechanically sound design of the EDSS Shoe, there appeared a need for a more universal horseshoe that could be used for minor lameness problems or for every day use on the equine athlete. The Natural Balance™ Shoe has helped to meet that need. Since its release in late 1996 and our continued research and use of the shoe in the field, we have made a few minor design adjustments which have made the NBS the shoe for the next century. With the ongoing search for answers and continued support of hoofcare practitioners all over the world, the EDSS and the NBS are becoming widely used hoofcare tools. We hope to continue to provide the hoofcare industry with products and information that bridge the gap between our domestic horses and Mother Nature. EDSS, Inc. is commited to being the leader in hoofcare research and the promotion of soundness in horses for the next century and beyond. SERVICES Equine Digit Support System, Inc. sponsors Gene Ovnicek hoof care seminars and clinics all over the country and abroad. For more information on these clinics and workshops, follow these links listed below. One Day Workshop are available for horse owners, farriers, veterinarians and other interested parties. These clinics consist of an overview of the Wild Horse/Domestic Horse comparisons and the Natural Balance™ approach to hoofcare focusing on servicing the needs of the equine foot. There will be two demonstrations done by Gene. One is a demonstration on "Natural Balance™ Trimming" and the other on either the Natural Balance™ Shoe application or the Equine Digit Support System application. Three Day Clinics/Workshops are available for farriers, veterinarians, horse owners and more. These clinics/workshops consist of a more extensive overview of the Wild Horse studies, including a Domestic Horse comparison. From there, an in-depth look at servicing the needs of the equine foot with focus on lower leg pathologies. This will lead into using the Natural Balance™ guidelines for maintaining healthy feet and treating diseased and distorted feet with the Equine Digit Support System. There is a demonstration of the EDSS application by Gene, then farriers and vets have the opportunity to team up and do some hands-on work with a number of cases. Attending a Three Day Clinic will yield the most beneficial learning situation. However, both will give you a better understanding of the Natural Balance™ approach to hoofcare. |
